Kyle and Simon have undergone a complete kitchen renovation, converting two separate rooms into a spacious open-plan kitchen, dining and living area. They envisioned an area that was stylish and practical with plenty of space for their love of cooking & baking, with the main focal point of the kitchen being an island, perfect socialising and working at home.
Magnet kitchen Designer Lester from our Leeds Showroom brought this to life with the help of Richard from RJG property refurbishment. Kyle & Simon also required plenty of storage, and to achieve this, a clever storage hack was to discreetly ‘swallow’ one of the beams from the extension into a shallow pantry cupboard, ideal for hiding away spices and condiments also keeping the cupboards flush and inline.
Magnet's trusted reputation, stylish and quality designs, finance and cashback offers, Which? Best Buy awards, and the dedicated support from a single designer throughout the process.
The experience was great overall! At times our renovation schedule meant the process slowed, and when a few kitchen elements were delayed, our designer Lester was quick to get things back on track.
We had about an eight month renovation journey, which began with our pre-build where we designed our kitchen. This part was pretty quick, and we were able to tweak our design along the way while we waited for our build to complete.
Making better use of the space, installing all of the appliances we wanted, having enough storage to free up worktop space, and creating customisable soft lighting to switch up for socialising.
We knew that we wanted two ovens to cope with the volume of people that we cook for, a venting hob, so we didn’t lose visibility, an island that had plenty of space for food prep and cooking, and a wine fridge that could hold enough wine for a decent party!
The island is one of our favourite parts of the design, because of the focal point and space it creates. We also love the glass cabinets for adding style and a mix of materials. Our boiling water tap is also great, and the venting hob means we can cook without a vent restricting our view.
"We knew we wanted storage that kept all of the necessary pots, pans and utensils close by for easy cooking and food prepping."
"We like to socialise at home, so wanted the ability to have everyone connected in a large kitchen space."
"We wanted the colour to be modern yet timeless, and handleless cabinets achieve a contemporary look too."
Kyle and Simon’s kitchen renovation is a perfect example of style meeting functionality. Installed by Richard Grinsill of RJG Property Refurbishment, with nearly 40 years of experience, the project highlights the craftsmanship and expertise behind every successful kitchen transformation.
In this Q&A, Richard shares insights from the renovation, along with tips and advice for anyone planning their own dream kitchen.
Our favourite part of this project was how easy the kitchen was to fit, due to all the carcasses been ridged and the high quality of the fittings.
I wish every client knew how high quality Magnet ranges and products are, in comparison to many cheaper brands.
The most popular components we install are the pullout storage units, which are absolutely great for organisation.
Before installation begins, ensure you've properly considered how not having a kitchen for a few weeks will affect your lifestyle, and then get a temporary kitchen set up so you're able to live comfortably.
People sometimes choose poor quality worktops in an attempt to save on costs, but this is a big mistake in the long run.
We've noticed a big return of more traditional, hand-painted Shaker styles.
Never scrimp on quality, "buy cheap, buy twice!"
