A long-held dream of mine was to create a spacious kitchen that was open plan and seamlessly spans out into the garden to allow for inside/outside living. Space was always a big priority for me. At every gathering I hosted, people always seemed to congregate in the kitchen and I would play the role of trying to nudge them to go into other rooms. It then got me thinking about having an open-plan space that you can enjoy whatever the occasion is, so I decided to completely transform the layout of the kitchen so it allowed for this type of living.
Another desire I’d always had was to incorporate a kitchen island - it was a vision for my home that I’ve always dreamed of! I love to entertain friends and family and adore the feeling of togetherness, so the kitchen island gives us somewhere to gather together whilst we chat and enjoy some delicious cocktails.
I knew I wanted a simple kitchen without excessive ornaments as I don’t like to have too much going on - I’m not a fan of clutter! I wanted a strong aesthetic that was also practical. I also knew I wanted a matt finish rather than something shiny, so Magnet’s Luna kitchen was the perfect choice for me. It’s a gorgeous minimalist kitchen design, which fits perfectly into my dream kitchen vision. The design’s integrated J-pull handle gives the kitchen a beautiful, sleek finish that creates clean lines, offers versatility and the creative freedom to style the space how I want.
When it came to choosing a colour scheme, I was looking to create a calm, serene space. My day-to-day is rather busy and can be stressful, so I wanted a kitchen that I could come home to and be the place where I fully relax and unwind. Choosing the hue ‘pebble’ allowed me to get the neutral colour palette I was dreaming of and provided the perfect canvas to infuse warmth through textures. It’s also a great jumping off point for styling the kitchen with accessories.
Technology Yasmin incorporated into her kitchen
Incorporating the AEG Built-in FlexiBridge Hob with Extractor into my kitchen design was an unexpected delight for me! It wasn’t something I knew I needed until it became an integral part of my cooking experience - but now couldn’t be without it! It draws odours and grease particles directly out of the saucepans, preventing cooking smells from rising up and infiltrating the kitchen and throughout the house. For me, it really is one of my favourite aspects of the kitchen - an unsung hero that effortlessly enhances my cooking experience.
Another technology element of the kitchen design which I’m really pleased I included are the double plug points and USB ports - particularly on the island. Although it may seem such a simple detail, it's a design feature that spares you countless headaches and inconveniences. The abundance of plugs on the island in particular has proven a game-changer. Whether I am whipping up a cake, following a recipe on my iPad, or working from the island, I can effortlessly plug in my mixer, charge my tablet or set up my laptop without the need to shuffle around or change locations. I encourage anyone who is redesigning their kitchen to add additional plug sockets, it’s a necessity that simplifies our lives in unexpected ways!
Which storage solutions did you go for in your kitchen?
The tall pull-out larder cupboard…wow what a life saver! The organised larder means that I’m no longer engaged in the frustrating search through the depths of the cupboards; I can clearly see and find all my ingredients. It makes cooking so much easier, especially in the hustle and bustle of my daily life when time is often of the essence.
